Just Hanging Around

This was my first time doing the Cobble Cave canyoneering route. I recently learned about the benefits of using a BlueWater VT Prusik rope as a third hand and thought I'd give it another try after a mixed results in two canyons last month. Since I'm a heavier guy than average, it exercises some extra precautions by helping control my descent more. But that came back to bite me with about 50 feet of free hang left when it bound up on the rope and I couldn't get it to let go. The next ten minutes were spent trying to get it free—but in the end, I had to cut the runner attached between the prusik and my harness—so I could finish the descent. Since I was LAMAR on this run, it didn't interfere with anyone else and it came down when we retrieved the rope.

It took our group of three 1h 40m from the time we left the vehicle until we returned—but that included the 10+ minutes I was a dope up on the rope.
