Camp Loll is a boy scout camp and high adventure base run by the Crossroads of the West Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). It is located on the west end of Lake of the Woods on the northern edge of the Jedediah Smith Wilderness in Targhee National Forest. It is accessible from the Ashton-Flagg Ranch (Grassy Lake) Road between Ashton, Idaho, and Flagg Ranch, Wyoming. The camp sits one mile from the southern border of Yellowstone National Park and five miles from the northern point of Grand Teton National Park and west of the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway.

I had the privilege of serving on staff at Camp Loll for three summers in the early 1990s under the direction of Delose and Janice Conner. As an adult leader in charge of scouts for a week, I have been able to make it back to camp two more times.

Beyond the standard scout camp offerings, Camp Loll has opportunities to hike to Union Falls and Ouzel Pool (Scout Pool), Terraced Falls, and Bula Lake in Yellowstone NP, as well as Survey Peak in Grand Teton NP. They also offer multi-day backcountry backpacking into the Bechler Region (Cascade Corner) of Yellowstone NP and the Teton Crest Trail in Grand Teton NP. Years ago, I saw an article from Backpacker magazine that listed their top ten backcountry hikes inside national parks—Teton Crest Trail was #1 and Bechler Region was #2. It's awesome that Camp Loll offers both!

Camp Loll also has rock climbing and rappelling at Weather Rock and CEYHO Basin, incredible waterfront activities on an awesome lake surrounded by dense forest, infamous Polar Bear Springs, and so much more. The week's activities are bookended with Monday and Friday evening campfire programs that are second-to-none while overlooking the lake at a campfire bowl that sits atop a 30-foot bare rise immediately above the lake. Don't miss the special treat on the lake towards the end of Friday's campfire while singing The Paddle Song.
