ThruNite Ti3 Flashlight

ThruNite Ti3 flashlight

Gear Review

ThruNite's Ti3 flashlight amazes me with how much punch it packs in such a small form factor. It weighs in at less than a half ounce without the single, easily replacable AAA battery it runs on.

I've owned a lot of flashlights of every size and that use all sorts of different batteries. This flashlight is my "go to" flashlight when I head out into the wilderness. It's lightweight, bright, and easily clips onto the brim of a hat to become a headlamp. Several times, it's been the only flashlight I've taken. This flashlight has gone head-to-head with friends' flashlights and this one stands its ground against more expensive and even larger flashlights.

Lithium batteries are my preferred chemistry as they weigh less and seem to last longer than alkaline cells. I always carry a spare with me on backpacking trips, but in the span of a typical three night trip, I rarely ever need to change batteries. In fact, the same battery usually lasts many trips from one nighters to mult-day.

Low 12 6.3 hours
High 120 0.5 hours
Strobe 120 1.0 hours

In the backcountry, I primarily use this flashlight in low and firefly modes, jumping up to high for only a minute or so as needed. Firefly mode is perfect for reading or looking for something in close range without compromising your night vision. High is great when you need to look out into the darkness to find what may be nearby. Low is perfect for general use.

When in use, it is almost always clipped to the brim of my hat. During the day it is always with me and usually attached to a lanyard of Lash-It along with a Gerber Paraframe Mini knife.

It was about $10.95 when I purchased this flashlight in July 2015 from Amazon. As of late-2018, it is currently at $13.95. Why spend $25 or more on a flashlight when this one performs just as well at half the cost.

I plan on buying more to put in our vehicles and as my EDC flashlight. It is far stronger than any cellphone flashlight (50–80 lumens) and it's about the size of a stick of lip balm.

My only minor gripe is the twist on/twist off design that can be a bit awkward one handed or with gloves. Also, I did lose the clip once and had to contact ThruNite—which they were awesome to work with to get a replacement.
