Yankee Doodle

Yankee Doodle

Like Boltergeist, Yankee Doodle's approach trail is a very short hike off the main road and fairly level. You don't pay your dues for the canyon until the fun is over.

To be honest, the optional 100-foot first rappel is worth it if you have a long enough rope and are willing to carry it the rest of the way through the canyon. The rest of the rappels are at most 15 feet with many of them that can be down-climbed.

There are about three boulders you have to crawl under to continue through the canyon. The first one is early, large, and flat enough you could put a two-person tent on top of it.

The exit climb out of Yankee Doodle doesn't seem near as taxing as Boltergeist, even though the overall elevation drop seems to be comparable.

What to Expect
  • This route requires standard technical gear.
  • You can usually expect at least some pools or water with little or no current.
  • Competent and smaller groups (4±) typically complete the route in under three hours
In my opinion, this route was an epic first-class canyon! I'm definitely returning.
